MAY/JUNE 2018 5 FR OM THE PRE SIDENT A s I come towards the end of my term as Presi- dent, I am proud to say, “ALL IS WELL!” For any of you that have been around for a while, that wasn’t always the case. There were many years that the organization was bleeding with financial problems, discontent employees, and a split board room. I would love to say that I had a hand in turning those issues around, but that is not the case. When I took over the job, the leadership that came before me had already fought those battles. We should all thank some great people that came before me including Allan Johnson, Greg Meyers, and Dave Beatty, the three Presidents that served before me. These people set DLI on a course of fiscal and operational excellence. Today DLI lives within its budget, continues to improve the benefits of membership, and has a clear vision of the future. I would be remiss without mentioning our current CEO Mary Scalco. My father used to say, “There is nothing more valuable than one good hire.” Mary certainly gives validation to Dad’s old saying. You can’t teach someone to care; it is an intrinsic part of who they are. Mary’s attention to detail, her willingness to go the extra mile, and her employees' morale all speak to her interpersonal skills. As the industry battles piece count reduction, casual dress, and upcoming generations that find it acceptable to wear shorts to a wedding, may I recommend that if you want to keep the “All is well” in your world, you leverage what DLI has to offer. There are so many tools there for the taking! In closing, I would like to thank each of you for having faith in me! My hope is that I left the organization just a little better than I received it. Blessings to All! Michael Nesbit All Is Well: DLI In Strong Health, Continuing Improvements Michael Nesbit
