•  Explain the general use of equipment.
•  Explain the importance and use of machine settings (timers, 
pressure, etc.).
•  Explain precautions to be observed in operation and safety or 
emergency features.
•  Explain the necessity of keeping equipment clean at all times. 
•  Show how equipment operates.
•  Trainee should learn to recognize fabrics and accessories that require 
special care of handling in finishing. 
•  Teach the proper iron temperatures for the various fabrics.
•  Show examples of items that were damaged in finishing. (Flattened 
corduroy, broken buttons, seam impressions, etc.)

•  Explain and show operation on hand ironing blouses and skirts, then 
proceed to dresses.
•  Explain and show correct method of measuring all types of items.
•  Show how to record these items.
•  Trainee should be taught to stretch items to proper size. 
•  Measurements should be accurately checked with records.
•  Explain pad replacement schedule.
•  Teach proper method of removing and replacing press pads and covers.
•  Provide instructions of emergency procedures: Evacuation Plan, Fire 
Extinguisher Use, Incident reporting, etc.

Job Description:   
•  Operates steam and vacuum presses, also steam and air form finishers.
•  Presses, reshapes, and restores suit jackets, vests, long coats, overcoats, 
and jackets; from wetcleaning and drycleaning.
•  May operate two or more machines designed to reshape or press 
particular parts or types of garments.
•  Replaces some types of pleats.
•  Operates hand iron and board in order to touch-up, press and 
reshape drycleaned or wetcleaned garments.  
•  Checks the condition of the padding on equipment.
•  Clean equipment and work area.
•  Replenishes supplies
